The previous clash held at the St.George's Park match saw Shane Watson
come up edge. The temperamental all rounder who hasn't quite established a place
for himself in the Australian batting line up despite his undisputed talented
played out a masterful innings of 126 to guide Australia through to a comfortable
seven wicket victory. After losing an early wicket, Australia fought back brilliantly
courtesy a 190 run partnership between Ricky Pointing and Shane Watson
to set up a series winning run chase. The bowling too can afford to be proud
after doing brilliantly to restrict the West Indies to a low total when they
looked set for a much bigger score. Chris Gayle looked to be in scintillating
form and at 85/0, the Windies looked to be making a fight out of it. However,
a run out to Gayle changed the course of events and the magnitude of loss will
dent West Indies confidence coming into this clash.
Australia will be extremely happy with their performance in the three matches
of the five match West Indies Australia series so far so far. While the batting
has looked solid, the bowling has always been nippy and penetrative. The likes
of Symonds, Hussey, Lee and Bracken have been brilliant while Michael Clarke
has come of age in this series. One player who has further enhanced his growing
reputation is Speedster Nathan Bracken. Bracken has been responsible for putting
the stops in the middle order and his performance will aid the Australia in
demoralising an already flattened West Indies outfit this coming Friday.
West Indies on the other hand, look completely forlorn and lost as all the
talk of improvement and fight back has evaporated amidst some powerful Australian
combat. While the absence of Marlon Samuels due to suspension has certainly
weakened the batting line up, the likes of Xavier Marshall and Dwayne Bravo
have only themselves to blame for their rather timid displays so far. Chris
Gayle looked good last time around for his combative forceful half century but
the eventual scheme of things would have hurt the West Indies skipper big time.
The middle order, which has looked suspect, caved in after the fall of the skipper
and Gayle will be hoping for widespread improvements this time around. West
Indies have proved that they can compete with the Australians as proved by their
20-20 victory earlier this month and they will be looking to do much of the
same this time around.
