Australia will be eyeing to retain the Frank Worrel Australia
West Indies test series trophy wrapped up when they come up against improving
West Indies in the second test match at North Sound this coming Friday. The
Australians held their own amidst some strong resistance by the Windies and
will be hoping that they can win their first away series in over three years
when they make the trip down to Guyana for this test match.

Australia will have the likes of Andrew Symonds and
Michael Clarke to thank for as they strode past fighting West Indies
on the final day of an absorbing first test match. Chasing 294, the Windies
lost the plot at the start of the innings at the face of some outstanding displays
of fast bowling from Michael Clarke and Brett Lee. Clarke in particular was
unplayable as he ripped apart the Caribbean batting line up with unnerving pace
and accuracy. Clarke eventually ended up with figures of 5-32 once again justifying
his selection into the Australian national cricket team after spending years
on the sidelines. The likes of Andrew Symonds and Stuart McGill also emerged
with honours from the previous match and will be hoping to continue their fine
form over the next few days in North Sound. Australia will be strengthened by
the arrival of Michael Clarke for this test match as well as the recovery of
Matthew Hayden and will be hoping that the batting line up which looked fragile
in the second innings can once again assert itself this time around.
West Indies on the other hand will be dismayed after letting a golden opportunity
slip by in the final day of the test match. However, their performance will
certainly please thousands of fans across the Caribbean islands who had been
waiting anxiously for a spirited performance from a side that is hiding under
the large shadows of it's past. Much of West Indies fortunes will depend on
the performance of returning Chris Gayle and all rounder Dwayne Bravo
for this clash. Despite failing with the bat, Bravo was the standout performer
with the ball for the Windies and will be hoping that he can continue his fine
form in the North Sound over the weekend. Special mention will also have to
be made for Southpaw Shivnarine Chanderpaul who played a warrior innings of
118 in the first innings. The diminutive left-hander stood firm in the face
of some brutal fast bowling by Brett Lee last time around to notch up one of
his best test centuries in Jamaica last time around. With Gayle returning from
injury, the West Indies batting line up will hope that they can finally convert
their immense potential into real time success when they host Australia in the
second test match this coming Friday 30th May 2008 at the North South stadium.
