West Indies will be hoping to finally make a strong comeback
into the powerhouses of international cricket when they come up against Australia
in the first of the three test match Frank Worrel Series in Kingston. West
Indies have won a single test series for the past four years and with pressure
intense on them finally delivering the goods, the Caribbean kings will be anxious
to prove themselves against the Australians this time around.

West Indies come into this match on the back of a disappointing
tour down in South Africa. After starting so promisingly with a win in their
first match, things started to move completely out of the order for the Windies
as they ended up losing the series 2-1. What followed after that was a complete
mauling as they lost out in the One Day Series 5-0 and it remains to be seen
if they can mount a challenge against the mighty Australians. West Indies will
have the likes of Ramnaresh Sarwan and Chris Gayle fit for this clash
but the biggest lost undoubtedly will be that of Marlon Samuels. Samuels was
finally starting to live up to his immense potential and his suspension from
international cricket for two years will have a heavy impact of their chances
in this match and the series itself. However, with the likes of Fidel Edwards
and Collins growing in stature every match, the Windies can garnish hopes of
shutting the famed Aussie line up for a low score and that is what they need
to do when they come up against the likes of Hayden and company in Kingston
this coming Thursday.
Australia have been brilliant in test cricket over the past
three years and have won all their series since the infamous Ashes reverse.
One of the regular trends of the Australian cricket team has been their ability
to win the first test match and that is something they have been doing with
stunning frequency for over four- five years now. Australia however did show
signs of vulnerability last time around in India when they were lucky to escape
with a narrow 2-1 win despite being outplayed for large periods of the game
and are starting to show signs that the absence of Glenn McGrath and Shane
Warne from the line up weakens them considerably. However, in Brett Lee
and Stuart Clarke they have a fine bowling line up and they will be eager
to make the most out of helpful Caribbean pitches. The Batting line up remains
strong as ever with the likes of Hayden and Mike Hussey coming from strong performances
in the Indian Premier League. Michel Clarke will be missing this
match due to family reasons. His replacement will be discard Simon Katich and
the Southpaw will be hoping to maintain his chances of securing a permanent
place in the starting line up with a good batting performance against the West
Indies in the first test match starting this coming Thursday 22nd May 2008 at
the Kingston Oval in the West Indies.
