West Indies will be hoping to kick start a revival with a test series victory
over the mighty Australian test cricket team when the three match test series
starting on the 22nd of May. The West Indies have not won a test series
for over four years now and will be hard pressed to pick out any mileage at
all from the best test team in World Cricket when the Baggie green make the
trip to Caribbean.

West Indies come into this series on the back of a disappointing 2-1 series
loss to South Africa. After winning the first test match comfortably,
the Windies slipped up in the remaining two to suffer yet another test loss.
Victories have come few and far in between for the Caribbean outfit since the
turn of the century and they desperately need to turn things around for a brighter
cricket future. The Windies will be further rocked by the news that Marlon Samuels, the promising right-hander who can make such an impact on his day
will not be available for this frank Worrel cricket series. The talented stroke
maker has been banned for two years following his relation with match fixers
and things look to be going downhill for the Windies even before a single ball
is bowled. However, one can never write off the Caribbean kings and with a squad
filled with enigmatic players such as Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul,
Dwayne Bravo and Ramnaresh Sarwan there is no shortage of talent in their ranks
and they will be itching to prove themselves in this crucial series. The bowling
department is also filled with young talents as the likes of Ravi Rampaul and
Fidel Edwards can make use of the hard bouncy pitches in the Caribbean to good
effect against the mighty Australians.
The Australian cricket team will be out to rectify the misadventures at home
against India when they come up against the West Indies. Australia have
been mighty successful against the West Indies and have not lost a series against
since for over thirteen years now. Ricky Pointing is yet to lose a test series
since the Ashes reverse three years back and he would love to maintain it that
way. Australia come into this series on the back of a dodgy 2-1 series victory
against the Indian cricket team back in December. Australia were fought tooth
to tooth but an impressive Indian side and the likes of Matthew Hayden and Mike
Hussey can brace themselves for a challenge against the pace battery of the
West Indies. While their batting is still the best around in world cricket,
their bowling has weakened after the departures of Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath
last year. While the Australians continue to win matches with grace, they do
not posses the same invincibility without these players and the likes of Brett
Lee and Stuart Clarke will have to step up to the challenge. With Brad Hogg
retiring from World cricket, Stuart McGill gets a call back to the international
side and he will be hoping to make a strong impact in the Caribbean this summer.
