The second game of the ICC World T20 will be played between the Group D teams of West Indies and Ireland. The third side in the group is England. The
match will begin at 5 pm local time and that means that the game will be the only
one out of the two matches in the tournament that will be played under the flood
lights.
Click for Live Score Card of West Indies Vs IrelandWest Indies will go into the game knowing that their recent international form
has been anything but good. They had played Australia in the T20Is and the ODIs
and lost all of the games in Australia, and then, went on to lose one T20I and
the first ODI of the series against Zimbabwe as well. This meant that the side
was under tremendous pressure before scraping through to some wins later on.
This will mean that the Irish side will have a chance. In the previous edition
of the tournament, Ireland had caused an upset when they had got the
better of Bangladesh in the first round to go through to the second round of
the competition. Of course, they had lost all their second round games, but
it had done more than what was expected off them.
The West Indian side will know this and they will also know that it was in
the West Indies itself that the first time Ireland had come into prominence.
They had beaten Pakistan in a first round encounter in the World Cup
and that had led their ouster from the World Cup and Ireland had managed to
make it through to the second round of the competition.
West Indies will need to guard against this and they will again look upon their
skipper Chris Gayle to do so. But what the captain, Gayle, will feel
happy about would be the fact that he has the support of his senior cricketers,
Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shiv Chanderpaul, both of whom are now fit and will
be a part of the squad.
This will mean that if both play, there will be a substantial change to the
playing eleven. In a way, with the presence on the likes of Dwayne Bravo and
Kieron Pollard, the side has some lovely balance in the end overs, and
given that both can bat and bowl really well, West Indies could be the side
to look out for.
Despite what Ireland can do, one would think that West Indies will be favourites
to win this game.
