Victorian Bushrangers take on the Western Warriors in the sixth match of
the Champions League T20. The match will be played at the St. George's Park in
Port Elizabeth and will be a Group A encounter. This will be the second match
for the Warriors, after they would have opened their account against the Wayamba
side, while Victoria are playing their first game in this tournament.
Click for Live Score Card of Western Warriors Vs Victorian BushrangersVictoria will go into the game under the captaincy of David Hussey.
The reason for this is that their normal captain, Cameron White was bought over
by the Royal Challengers Bangalore; which means that the side will be hit. However,
the fact that needs to be noted is that Victoria is the most consistent cricket
team in the KFC Big Bask T20 tournament, in Australia and they have entered
the finals of the all the five tournaments that were played. Out of these five,
they have won four of the tournaments, and in the last season too, they had
been the winners.
The point is that Cameron White hasn't always been there given that
he has been away for the international duty on many occasions. This means that
the Victorian Bushrangers side has the wherewithal to play without their
captain and the leading player, something that the Warriors will be well aware
of.
If not White, there are other batsmen in the top order, including Hussey himself,
who can take over the mantle from the previous captain. Brad Hodge is one of
the better T20 players, whereas the presence of Andrew McDonald in the middle-order
will afford them the necessary charge. Rob Quiney should open the batting, while
Matthew Wade has been amongst the runs too.
However, it is the bowling that stands out for Victoria. There is the presence
of Dirk Nannes, Clint McKay and Shane Harwood in the line-up, all supported
by James Pattinson and Bryce McGain.
As compared to that, the Warriors are being led by Davey Jacobs, and have a
brittle batting. Apart from Mark Boucher and to an extent, Ashwell Prince,
the batting looks a tad undercooked, which could be the cause of problems.
However, looking at man to man, the bowling looks as strong, if not better
on paper than Victoria. They have Makhaya Ntini, Juan Theron, Garnet
Kruger, Johan Botha and Nicky Boje - all of whom are experienced T20 bowlers.
This should make for an interesting contest, especially given that the game
will be played at the Warriors home.
