Two Pakistani cricketers have reportedly been entrusted with the job of roping
in players for the lucrative Indian Cricket League (ICL).
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), however, said it was not worried about
any possible exodus of players signing up for the league which at present does
not have the approval of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
"Any possible move towards ICL by players who will be
awarded central contracts and those who are getting retainerships will be dealt
on a case-to-case basis," Shafqat Nagmi, the chief executive officer
of the board said today.
"The players who are contracted with us will naturally
be governed by the clauses of the contract. But eventually it depends on who
is going to play in the league. If some former players want to go then I don't
see how we can stop them," Nagmi said.
The Indian media reported that the organisers are keen to sign on some top
players to make their league a success in its first season.
Nagmi said that the board enjoyed very good relations with
their Indian counterparts and obviously if the ICL was not endorsed officially,
PCB would not encourage Pakistani players to play there.
"We are treating it as an internal matter of the Indian board and so I
wouldn't like to say more on it," he said.
Sources say that the ICL organisers have contracted two leading
players in Pakistan to start the process of roping in players for the
league without making too much of noise.
