Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said the Twenty20 victory over Australia
will boost his team's confidence as it prepares to take on Pakistan in
a hectic five ODI and two Test series next month.
"This victory, as well as the last ODI victory, will give us a lot of confidence
and momentum ahead of the Pakistan series," Dhoni said after India beat Australia
by seven wickets in the one-off Twenty20 International at the Brabourne Stadium
last night.
"International cricket is more about confidence than technique,"
he said and lauded the fearless approach of his side.
"Gautam (Gambhir) and Robin (Uthappa) have matured and
played aggressively. At times they may fail trying for shots and may be criticised
for playing rash shots but that's how it is." The skipper also lavished
praise on spinners Harbhajan Singh and Murali Kartik for their economical spells
which put the brakes on Australian scoring.
"Harbhajan and Kartik bowled well. Kartik was preferred
over Joginder because of conditions. In India, we have to generally sacrifice
the fourth seamer for second spinner," Dhoni said.
