To catch the attention of cricket crazy youths in the country, NACO is
planning a special AIDS campaign during the World Cup cricket next month.
"We are planning a special campaign during the
World Cup cricket series. We know this is the best time to catch the
viewers` attention," a National Aids Control Organisation (NACO)
official said today.
He said as India is a cricket-crazy country they will
be able to reach to people in all age groups, especially the young, during the
event.
The month-long world cup cricket starts from march 13.
"The campaign will specifically focus on prevention and awareness messages,"
he said. One of the message is on ABC -- abstinence, be faithful and condom
use.
"These messages will be aired on Doordarshan
and All India Radio and we are going to spend Rs 4.5 crore on this campaign,"
he said.
He said from next month onwards they are also going to intensify their campaigns
in cable and satellite channels in between serials," he said.
The focus during these slots is on stigma, counselling and testing, voluntary
blood donation, prevention of parent to child transmission and on art clinics,
which are providing free drugs to 85,000 adults and 10,000 children in the country.
