England's star all rounder Andrew Flintoff, recuperating fast after ankle
surgery, has been cleared by the England and Wales Cricket Board to make
his comeback for Lancashire on Tuesday.
Flintoff will play as a specialist batsman for the club's second XI against Derbyshire
at Blackpool but he is not yet ready to bowl.
The 29-year-old Flintoff, who was anticipated to play again
"before the end of the summer", is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation
work with Lancashire physio Dave Roberts.
Roberts said the all rounder was making "excellent progress"
after the third surgery on his left ankle but was not expected to play any part
in England's on-going Test series against India.
"The one-dayers are a more realistic target," the
29-year-old Flintoff had said last weekend.
Flintoff had suffered discomfort in his ankle during a Championship
game against Hampshire in early May. Although he played as a batsman in a Twenty20
Cup match against Yorkshire, it was decided an operation was the best option.
