Australian captain Ricky Ponting hit his fourth World Cup century
registering a 203-run victory over Scotland in their opening Group A match
on Wednesday.
Ponting batted with determination after being dropped on 23
to make 113 with five sixes before he was bowled by Craig Wright.
Tail-ender Brad Hogg also slammed an unbeaten 40 to take Australia
to 334 for six from their 50 overs after Matthew Hayden (60) and Adam
Gilchrist (46) had given them a 91-run opening partnership.
Scotland were in early trouble at five wickets down for 42
before Colin Smith hit a defiant 51 before he was last to depart with
the score on 131.
John Blain did not bat for Scotland through injury
