The Australia can once again be termed mighty after their World Cup win
over South Africa on Saturday which erased the bad memories of their consecutive
defeats against New Zealand recently.
Australia need to win this week's Super Eights World
Cup matches against the West Indies and Bangladesh in Antigua
and hope in-form Sri Lanka beats South Africa in Guyana on Wednesday
to emerge on top.
Australia's five consecutive losses to England and New
Zealand last month gifted Graeme Smith's side the No.1 ranking in one
day internationals for the first time since the system was introduced in
October 2002.
But Australia's emphatic 83-run group match victory in St Kitts
on Saturday has left the door open for Ponting's men to reclaim the title.
However, Australia faces some problems in the bowling department
as barring McGrath other bowlers in the Australian team are young with less
experience in international ODI matches.
The three-time World Cup champions have once again proved their
mettle and have emerged as one of the strongest contenders for the coveted cup
this time as well.
