The technical committee of the BCCI - that also comprises of Sourav Ganguly
- has advised the BCCI to not have foreign players for the domestic season and
to restrict the number of players from regions other than the team itself, to
be at maximum of three.
The technical committee has also said that the system in which the Ranji
trophy matches were played at neutral venues needs to be scrapped and a
home-and-away format needs to be included. The neutral venues had come in for
a lot of criticism, especially from the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, who
had said that there was no fun in going ahead with it given that there was no
crowd support for either team.
The general secretary of the BCCI, N.Srinivasan, said that the decision on
the venue will be based "on the previous clash in knockout games between
the two teams"
The technical committee has also advised the BCCI to look into having the players
from the Indian national team play for the first class games. This will help,
both, the team and the marketability of the first class tournaments, which seem
to have lost their sheen. Last year, during the longish break due to the cancellation
of a couple of tournaments/series, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS
Laxman, Ishant Sharma, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir
(had played in the Ranji trophy.
Rather surprisingly, the one-day games in the first class in India do not follow
the same powerplay rules as the ODIs, and the technical committee has recommended
the same. The powerplay means that the batting team has twenty overs where there
are fielding restrictions including the ten mandatory, and two blocks of five
overs each; one by the fielding team and the other by the batting. The ball
also needs to be mandatorily changed after 34 overs.
However, according to the technical committee, the SG balls haven't been surviving
too well, and there have been games where the same has to be changed more than
4-5 times in one session.
There has also been a suggestion for the installation of a special committee
for the assessment of pitches in the first class cricket. This committee will
comprise of Sunil Gavaskar, Krish Srikkanth and Chetan Chauhan.
