Former Indian coach, Greg Chappell has said no to the job of coaching of
the Pakistani side. Pakistan is currently coached by former Pakistani cricketer
Intikhab Alam, but with the shoddy display on the tour of Australia, there
are rumours that the coach's position is untenable in the side. Pakistan had
lost all their matches on tour including three Tests, five ODIs and a solitary
T20I. Chappell said that he had been approached by Wasim Bari for
taking up the job of coaching the side, but he had politely declined the offer.
Currently, Chappell is working for the Cricket Australia and has said that he
is not interested in coaching the side. He said, "I have no ambition to coach
at the international level again and I am committed to my role with CA as Head
Coach at the Centre of Excellence and Chairman of our National Youth Selection
Panel." This has also meant that Pakistan is definitely on a lookout
for a coach, something that Alam seems to be unaware of. Apparently, it has already
been announced that neither Alam nor the bowling coach Aaquib Javed has been asked
to travel with the side which will play two T20Is in the UAE against England. However,
Wasim Bari, the man who has said to have made contact with Chappell has denied
any such happening. He neither confirmed nor denied that Alam was being axed,
whereas he has denied that Chappell was approached. In other Pakistan news,
Mohammad Yousuf has hit back at the criticism he has received for his captaincy.
He has said that he was never a natural at captaincy and yet, taken up the job;
a challenge from which a lot of the players were running away. Interestingly,
he also said that the side lost the games because of the lack of morale. And according
to Yousuf, there was one player responsible for the loss of morale, but did not
name him. He said that he had spoken to the coach and team management including
Shahid Afridi, but will reveal the name of the player to the President
of the cricket board only. He also added that he had been looking for signs from
the players right from the tour to New Zealand and found that his body language
was barely right and he had been responsible for bringing down the body language
of the others as well. Yousuf added, "Intikhab Alam (coach), Abdur
Raqeeb (manager) and [Shahid] Afridi know who the player is and we discussed it
as well several times."
