Grant Compton, the trainer at the Pakistan's
National Cricket Academy and a key member of the support staff brought
by Coach Bob Woolmer, has resigned over differences with the cricket
board over his contract.
Compton said he was disappointed with the way the Pakistan
Cricket Board handled the issue of negotiating about extending his contract,
which expired on December 31, 2006.
"I have tendered my resignation. I feel having worked here for over two
years I was entitled to renegotiate my contract," Compton said.
A board official claimed Compton's demands were unacceptable and thus any new
contract was unlikely, therefore the chairman had accepted the resignation.
But Compton said he just wanted a relook into the contract due to factors such
as inflation. "I wasn't making any demands, I asked for a few things in
the negotiations, nothing else. I thought I was worth a little bit more after
the time I have been here and I just wanted to re-look at the contract and keep
in mind things like inflation," he was quoted as saying.
Compton chiefly worked with Shoaib Akhtar and
Umar Gul on their various injury problems. Most recently, he also assisted Shabbir
Ahmed and Abdul Razzaq in their rehabilitation.
