Indian cricket coach Greg Chappell today said India has the experience and flexibility
to win the World Cup and it is time now for the team to deliver and fulfil
the expectations of the billion fans.
"We have got good balance and variety in bowling. We have
wide range of options no matter what the conditions are. We have the confidence
and plenty of hope," Chappell said at the team's pre-departure press conference
here.
"We are all now looking forward to the showpiece event. We are in as good
a position as any other team.
"The preparation has been done. Now it is about performance on each day.
The quadrennial event is to be held in the West Indies from
March 13 to April 28. The team is to leave for the Caribbean tomorrow.
India play their first match on March 17, against Sri Lanka
at Jamaica.
Chappell said the veterans in the team might not be the most
agile fielders on view but they brought experience to the side.
"Fielding will be an important part. In the last few games it has been
quite good. The positive side of it (have seniors in the side) is that we have
the experience of some 1900 ODIs in the group. That will off-set any deficiency
we might have," the 58-year old Australian said.
"We will be playing in different countries. Teams with most options and
flexibility will do well.
"The main teams are very even and there are going to be close games. Pressure
will be on and that is where our experience and flexibility will come into play."
