In its bid to nurture young talents of the country, the Delhi District Cricket
Association (DDCA) is coming up with its own state cricket academy on the
lines of National Cricket Academy (NCA) here next year.
The academy will have Terry Jenner as the coach while the services of NCA's Director
of Operations Dav Whatmore would also be utilised at the academy.
The DDCA would also hold a week-long camp by former Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram
in the capital city from August 18 as part of its other development projects
for the next season.
"The DDCA is all set to open up its own state cricket academy on the patterns
of the National Cricket Academy of Bangalore," DDCA General Secretary S
P Bansal told reporters here.
"We are expecting the academy to be ready by April-May next year,"
he added.
The former international umpire further said the DDCA is also contemplating
of opening up an institute of umpires in the capital.
"We are also thinking of opening up an umpires' institute in as there
is lot to be done on that aspect." As a part of its development projects
this season, the DDCA is organising a series of camps for bowlers and batsmen
under the guidance of former international cricketers.
The initiative will start with a two week-long bowlers' camp at the Feroz Shah
Kotla Stadium under the watchful eyes of former Australian spinner and Shane
Warne's mentor Terry Jenner.
