Having shown strength of character in turning things around to win the triangular
series Down Under, England can win the World Cup if they sustain their
brilliant form, according to English spinner Monty Panesar.
"I think there is lot of character shown by the England
team especially in the one-day series, beating Australia thrice. With the experience
within our team which was not vast, we have done well," Panesar told reporters
here today.
"We have a good chance at the World Cup. There is lot
of energy and positive approach shown by the team.
"We just have to continue in the same way so we can do
well at the World Cup. Hopefully we can carry the positive energy into the World
Cup." Twenty-four-year-old Panesar, the first Sikh to play Test cricket
for England, is here on a promotional visit.
Panesar opined that the conditions back in West Indies
would define the role of spinners at the mega event.
"The general feedback from a lot of people is that pitches
there will be slower and lower. I think spinners would play a role back in West
Indies but it depends on how the pitches will behave there," said Panesar
who plays county cricket for Northamptonshire.
While "finding it difficult" to single out his prized wicket, Panesar
said "it's nice to get someone out stumped or being involved in a regulation
dismissal."
