Former Indian cricket captain, Sourav Ganguly, today expressed his willingness
to bowl in the World Cup.
Talking to reporters, Ganguly said: 'Of course I would like
to bowl. I have bowled a lot in ODIs and I see no reason why I won't like to
bowl.'
'But it depends on captain Rahul Dravid on how he chooses
to utilise me. If he wants me to bowl, I will,' Ganguly said, a day after he
returned to hometown Kolkata to a hero's welcome from Vishakapatnam as the Man
of the Series in India-Sri Lanka ODI matches.
'What matters most is what is the need of the hour,' Ganguly
said.
'If the situation demands me to bowl, I will. I have bowled
before in West Indies,' said Ganguly who on many occasions had taken crucial
wickets.
Asked about the wickets in the West Indies, he said,
'They will be competitive for sure. May be not as fast as before, but surely
competitive. Countries holding the Cup want to give something good.'
On the current form the team is on having won two big series back-to-back at
home, he said, 'This is a great thing winning two series back-to-back. But the
thing is we need to perform during the four weeks of the World Cup. It is that
what matters.'
'I am not thinking about the Cup now. It's a few days away.
Now I want to rest for a few days first,' he said.
