Veteran Australian pace spearhead Glenn McGrath has conceded that thoughts
of retirement crossed his mind during the tri-series finals against England.
"When you announce your retirement, the last thing you want to do is actually
retire before you play your last game. I think I did let it creep in (in Melbourne).
Hopefully I got that game out of the way."
"I actually sat down and thought about it. I went into
Sydney with a different approach and felt a lot better and went out there to
enjoy it, which is what it's all about," McGrath was quoted as saying in
the Australian media.
McGrath, however, has vowed to stay focused for the forthcoming
Chappell Hadlee series against New Zealand and the Cricket
World Cup next month.
"So I'll be pretty focused now until hopefully the end of April and then
I can think about retiring," he said.
McGrath said he would keep alive the memory of taking a wicket
with his last ball in Australia on his home ground in Sydney on Sunday
night.
"Each ball I bowled in that last over the crowd was getting louder and
louder. It was something I'll always remember. It was something pretty special,"
he said.
McGrath has already bid good-bye to test cricket after the
5-0 ashes whitewash of England and would be making his last ODI appearance in
the Cricket World Cup.
