The Cricket Board today issued an ambiguous statement on the contentious issue
of Indian Cricket League, saying that anyone associating himself with "any
other organisation" will not be connected with the activities of the BCCI.
The BCCI office bearers, who met at President Sharad Pawar residence here,
also said those who associated with any other organisation would not be entitled
to any benefits from the the Board.
"Every individual has a right to choose whether he wishes
to associate himself with the BCCI or any other organization. However, if he
chooses to associate himself with any other organization, he shall not be entitled
to derive any benefits from BCCI, or be connected with any of its activities,"
Vice-President Rajiv Shukla read out a two-line statement after the meeting
that lasted about two and half hours.
The BCCI officials did not take any questions on the ICL issue,
saying the statement explained everything.
The BCCI and the ICL, a brainchild of the Subhash Chandra
owned Essel Group, have been engaged in a war of words over the past few days.
Treasurer N Srinivasan said the Board had merely formulated
a "policy" based on which "any decision on individuals"
would be taken at the Special General Body Meeting at Mumbai on August 21.
"It is not an ultimatum to Kapil Dev," he said.
