Batting maestro Sunil Gavaskar, a member of the 1983 winning team, today exuded
confidence that Team India will emerge winners in the upcoming World Cup.
When asked to rate India's chances at the World Cup,
Gavaskar said, "On a scale of 10, I would say 9. And I seriously believe
that."
He, however, retracted from his earlier statement in which
he had reportedly said that the present team was better than the 1983 World
Cup winning team.
The little master said, "Don't misquote me. I didn't say that this team
is better than 1983 but that it is better prepared."
"They are definitely better prepared this time," he said.
"Going by the sheer volume of matches they have played in, as well as
the fact that they have played almost every team. Therefore, they are aware
of their strengths and weaknesses," he added.
