Though time is running out as the deadline expires tomorrow, India is yet
to submit its bid for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup despite applying for hosting the
event.
Qatar, meanwhile, became the first country to formally bid for the event when
two officials handed over the bid to Asian Football Confederation President Mohamed
Bin Hammam at Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Apart from India, Iran another bidding member association,
are yet to follow suit.
The List of Requirements states that the bidding member associations
have to submit all bid documents to AFC by June 21.
The AFC Executive Committee will decide on the host country
in its meeting in Jakarta on July 29, on the final day of 2007 Asian Cup, which
will be co-hosted by Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand.
Qatar is bidding to host its second Asian Cup after hosting
the event in 1988, which was won by Saudi Arabia.
The country's Football Association General Secretary Saud Al Mohannadi
and Technical Director Athanasios Batsilas handed over
the bid documents to Bin Hammam at the AFC headquarters.
