India's young brigade may have been exceptional in the Twenty20 World Cup but
the side will have to fall back on veterans like Sachin Tendulkar and
Rahul Dravid once it returns to playing "serious cricket", feels former
New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns.
"Of course the younger guys are agile and have done brilliantly in the Twenty20
World Cup. The team is on a high especially after the upset win over Australia
but twenty20 cannot measure up to ODIs and Tests," Cairns said.
"When it comes to Tests and ODIs, which they would be
playing very shortly, the Indians cannot do without Sachin (Tendulkar), Rahul
(Dravid) and Sourav Ganguly." "These guys are the best right now and
India cannot leave them just because the youngsters did well in Twenty20. I
don't see anybody who can be considered an option ahead of them," he added.
Heaping praise on Mahendra Singh Dhoni's young side, Cairns
said the Indians played near perfect cricket in the tournament.
"Everything has clicked for them. They have done well in all three departments
of the game and have emerged as a formidable unit," he said.
On Yuvraj Singh's record feat of six sixes in an over against
England, Cairns said he had been left amazed by the left-hander's display.
"Thank god I wasn't bowling to him!" he quipped.
