India's tour of England will begin with a tour game against Somerset, but
the real action will begin with the four Test match series that will be played
out. The first Test match will begin from July 21 at the Lord's, a ground where
the Indians have not had much success.
This will be followed by the second Test match, which will be played at Trent
Bridge in Nottingham, on July 29. It was here that the Indians had won their only
game last time they had toured England, in the process, winning the series 1-0.
Between the second and the third Test match, there is a tour game that the Indians
will play against Northamptonshire. This is a two-day game to be played on August
5 and August 6. This will be followed by the third Test between India and England
at Edgbaston in Birmingham, from August 10.
The fourth and the final Test match between India and England will be played out
at the Oval from August 18.
The Test series will be followed by the games of the shorter variety. There
will be three tour games before the start of the T20I, that will be played against
Sussex at Hove, Kent at Canterbury and Leicestershire at Leicester. The only
T20I between India and England, their first outside World T20 will be
hosted by Old Trafford in Manchester. This will be played on August 31.
The ODI series will begin from September 3. The five matches will be played on
September 3, 6, 9, 11 and 16. The venues for these five matches are Chester-le-Street
in Durham, Rose Bowl in Southampton, the Oval in London, the Lord's, also in London
and the fifth and the final game at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
The Indians will be led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni in all the three formats
of the game but what is interesting to note is that the English side will have
different captains in the different versions of the game. Andrew Strauss
will lead the side in the Tests before moving out and Stuart Broad will take
over for the one-off T20I. In the ODIs, the in-form Alastair Cook will take
over the reins and will lead the team.
The Indians have already reached England for the tour after their series against
West Indies.
