The tournament has not even started but there have been many teams which have been hit by many injury issues. This will need the teams to come up alternative plans to counter the opposition. With the tournament as long as 45 days, but with many gaps between the games, it should help those who have a nagging ailment or
two.
Here is the list of the injury problems that the sides have had to face in
recent times.
India:
After Praveen Kumar was replaced by S Sreesanth, it is the chance of
Zaheer Khan to feel the pinch. He has missed both the warm-up games as
precautionary measures and how he comes up in the first game of the tournament
will be something to watch out for. If he does not recover from his groin issue,
there is a good chance that the Indians may not risk him and play the other
pace bowlers.
Australia:
They have most of the players fit though Brad Haddin's back will be of concern.
Interestingly, he played in the second warm-up game against South Africa and
got a duck to his name.
England:
They are a team which is coming back from all the injury issues that have haunted
them all these days. Earlier, there was no sign of Stuart Broad, Graeme
Swann Ajmal Shehzad and Tim Bresnan. Now, apart from Bresnan, all the other
bowlers are fit and raring to go. However, the absence of Bresnan will make
it difficult for the side and they will go ahead with a replacement.
West Indies:
They were hit by three injuries. First of all, one of the more important batsmen
in the middle order, Kieron Pollard missed out on two warm-up games because
of the side strain. He has five more days to recover from his injury and get
into the best of healths before the first game.
However, the other two are more serious injuries as that would mean that the
pair of Adrian Barath and Cartlon Baugh may even miss the World Cup and that
will put the onus on the rest of the players.
Zimbabwe:
Zimbabwe have had an issue or two with their side. They lost one player after
another and now will hope that the top-order remains fit for the games given
that they lack in experience.
Pakistan:
Shoaib Akhtar's fitness will be one to watch out for.
