Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has come out in favour of Australian Dav hatmore
who, he thinks, has the best chance of becoming the national team
coach.
Whatmore and two other Australians - Geoff Lawson and Richard Done
- were the three shortlisted candidates for the position. The Pakistan Cricket
Board has interviewed all of them and is due to announce their decision by the
end of the week.
"Actually it is the Board's decision who they choose.
But I think Whatmore will be the one because he has lot of experience and has
proven results in the past at the international level which is so important,"
Inzamam said.
The burly middle-order batsman said Bob Woolmer, who
died during the World Cup in the Caribbean, was one of the best coaches Pakistan
ever had but Whatmore too carried a good reputation.
"Whatmore has worked with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and
he has been in the South Asia region since the early 90s. So he knows how to
deal with our system of cricket. Which is why I think he will get the job,"
Inzamam said.
Inzamam also felt that working with a young captain in Shoaib Malik
would ensure Whatmore could give his best.
"Malik is still learning and will improve with time as
captain. He needs to have an experienced coach supporting him in the dressing
room."
