Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has rubbished
allegations of ex-captain Inzamam ul Haq being a dictator during his tenure.
Khan, who served as PCB Chairman from December 2003 to last October, was
accused by a PCB appointed probe committee of pampering Inzamam and allowing him
to turn into a dictatorial captain.
The committee, formed to probe Pakistan's humiliating first
round exit from the World Cup, said Inzamam had turned into an autocrat
after last year's Oval Test fiasco against England and should
not have captained the team in the World Cup.
Khan, however, asserted that the charges made against him and
Inzamam were baseless.
"I disagree with the findings of the probe committee.
I admit Inzamam was not an ideal choice for the captaincy but he was the best
choice among the lot," Khan said .
"The fact is that for most part of his tenure he performed well and along
with Bob Woolmer did pick up the fortunes of the Pakistan team,"
he added.
"So to now brand him all these names is not fair. The
fact is he was your most reliable batsman in most difficult times. Mohammad
Yousuf and Younis Khan only blossomed into quality players later
on to shore up the batting," Khan further said.
