The governing body of Indian Premier League (IPL) will meet on Wednesday,
January 5 in order to converse on the IPL player auctions which will be held on
January 8 and 9 in Bangalore.
An official in BCCI confirmed that IPL Governing Council will meet on January
5 at Bandra Kurla Complex which is home to Mumbai Cricket Association. Player's
auction is the topic likely to be addressed for the most part of the meeting.
IPL, the most lucrative cricket tournament in the world will start from April
8 in Chennai. This edition of IPL is likely to have 10 teams competing in 74
thrilling games. There are some new rules and regulations for the tournament,
and also new management after Lalit Modi debacle.
The other topic likely to be conferred is the deadline given by Bombay High
Court to the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals which ends today. Bombay High Court
had given Rajasthan Royals an ultimatum to submit a report explaining all the
details about the ownership and set for them an amount of money to be paid to
BCCI.
At auction in Bangalore, more than 350 professional cricketers from all over
the world would participate. All the IPL franchises will bid for the players
for the IPL 4, which offers T20 cricket that is viewed by more than a billion
people worldwide. 12 players including Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag
and Mahendra Singh Dhoni will not participate in the auction because
they were retained by five franchises before auction according to IPL regulations.
11 of the 12 players retained have made centuries in previous editions of IPL,
the list includes IPL's fastest century maker Yusuf Pathan and ICC One Day International
2010 player AB de Villiers. Apart from these dozen superstars, some very big
names in the cricket will be bid for, with fans hoping they will be acquired
by the team they support.
IPL 3 wasn't free of controversy and BCCI would be hoping that this edition
of IPL comes clean. BCCI have taken many stern steps in making sure that happens.
Apart from the Rajasthan Royals, BCCI suspended Kings XI Punjab after meeting
on October 10. Kochi franchise was given warning to put their house in order
after severe ownership disputes. Kochi franchise however admirably settled their
ownership troubles just in time and was cleared to play in IPL in the beginning
of December.
