The meeting of the Governing Council ended today at the BCCI office in Mumbai and a decision was taken to appoint Chirayu Amin as the new chairman
of the interim Governing Council. This interim committee will meet again in
a time span of around one month to decide on the course of action for the Champions
League T20, which will be played in September in South Africa.
The Governing Council meeting which had started at 10.00 am IST on Monday,
ended almost two hours later and came out with a decision that the IPL Governing
Council will now have an interim Council, headed by Amin. Manohar has also said
that the BCCI had failed to produce some of the documents that the IT team had
asked for and they had appointed the BCCI CAO, Ratnakar Shetty to look
into the matter. Manohar has added that the troika of former cricketer, Ravi
Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar and MAK Pataudi will also discuss with various
franchises to decide on the number of foreign players and number of domestic
players in the sides from next IPL. Currently, there are four players allowed
per team, but there is a reasonable probability that the teams will now need
to decide on whether there should be four or even lesser foreign players that
could feature in the IPL teams from the next season.
Manohar added that if Lalit Modi is able to explain his conduct and convince
the Governing Council, then, his suspension can be taken back as well. The Governing
Council, had earlier on the 25th of April, suspended Lalit Modi from
his post of the Chairman of the Governing Council, only moments after the finals
of the IPL had ended. This meant that Modi was not allowed to make it to the
Governing Council meeting and in retaliation to this, Modi had asked publicly
whether the BCCI was scared of him or the truth from coming out? Modi had, in
the same conference, added that all the decisions were taken jointly by the
Governing Council, but also said that if there were any wrongdoings, then he,
as the captain of the ship was ready to take the responsibility.
The members of the Governing Council include former cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar,
MAK Pataudi, Ravi Shastri, politicians like Arun Jaitley, Rajeev Shukla,
and Omar Abdullah, apart from other members, IS Bindra, Shashank Manohar, N
Srinivasan and others.
Chennai Super Kings had won the third edition of the IPL yesterday.
