Veteran Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya made a world
record for most career sixes during his superb half-century knock against New
Zealand in their fourth one-day international in Auckland on Saturday which
the visitors won by 189 runs, sources said.
According to the channel, the 37-year-old elegant left-hander sent five deliveries
beyond the fence during his 44 ball 70 to take his tally to 222 sixes, overtaking
Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridis figure of 217 sixes.
Sanath also helped the visitors level the five-match series two-all with the
decider to be played at Hamilton on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka had made 262 runs in their quota of 50 overs with brilliant
knocks of Sangakkara (79) and Jayasuriya (70).
New Zealand were skittled out for a paltry 73, their lowest in New Zealand.
Their previous lowest playing at home was 74 against arch-rivals Australia
at Wellington in 1982
