Sri Lankan skipper, Mahela Jayawardene, today threw the gauntlet at India
ahead of the third cricket one dayer, saying the hosts had to play "really
good cricket" right through the contest to be able to beat his team.
Jayawardene said that his players had developed the attitude
of not giving up till the very end which has started paying dividends in the
past 12 months. Jayawardene said on the eve of the third match of the series,
which Sri Lanka leads 1-0.
"We not only want to win the series but also every game. That has been
our focus over the last 12 months with whom so ever we play. That has been our
attitude."
Sri Lanka wants to continue their winning momentum and will
look to seal the four-match series tomorrow itself, Jayawardene added.
"We want to compete in every game and if a side wants
to beat us it has to play really good cricket. That has been our strength. Every
game is a motivation for us because winning is a good habit to have," he
said.
With Sri Lanka and India facing each other in the group
stages in the Cricket World Cup, Jayawardene said the series has been
the ideal warm-up for the bigger challenge.
"This series is a good challenge for us before the Cricket
World Cup. We have crossed one hurdle and tomorrow will be another one. I am
sure all the guys are focused and keen to get the series tomorrow," he
added.
