On the eve of the selection of India 'A' team's tour to Kenya
and Zimbabwe, all rounder Mohd. Kaif and fast bowlers Irfan Pathan and
Munaf Patel sounded positive about getting back to playing at the international
level.
Dennis Lillee, former Australian speedster and consultant coach of MRF
Pace Foundation, told reporters at the end of his 14-day stint at the academy
that both Pathan and Patel were close to bowling at their usual best and Kaif
was in his elements. "Now the bowlers need to play a few matches to assess
themselves," Lillee said.
Later the Indian players told reporters that they are keen
on playing for the country 'at any level, if selected'.
Kaif said he had decided to come to MRF, mainly because they
have the best bowlers in India and also a few international bowlers.
"I came here mainly to hone my skills in batting and bowling.
Here they have the best of facilities and talents. I am ready to serve the country.
Of course, it is tough to replace people who are doing well in the senior team.
But I will perform with a goal to get back in the side'.
Pathan and Patel, who said they would continue to train here
since no domestic matches were scheduled now, were happy on their recovery and
being able to bowl at full steam.
"I came here for rehabilation and training. Gregory
King and John Gloster gave the schedule to Ramji Srinivasan
of MRF. He had done an excellent job in our fitness levels being what it is
today. I am more than happy that both Dennis and Sekar (chief coach) were able
to advise and correct my wrongdoing. I am looking forward to playing in competitive
matches', Pathan said.
