Kenya is set for bigger horizons in the Cricket World. They
have this year been given the opportunity to make the fream a reality, when
they participate in the forthcoming inaugural International Cricket Council
(ICC) Twenty 20 World Championships.
Kenya will however need to qualify by gaining one of two slots that will be
available to the two qualifying teams during the ICC World Cricket league division
1 (WCL Div 1) which kicks off in Nairobi, Kenya on 30th January. The event runs
through to 7th February 2007 and Kenya will be out to prove that its past success
is no fluke as well as showing that it can stage an event of this type successfully.
The league will bring together the six top associate members
of ICC: Bermuda, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands and Kenya.
The six countries will also take part in the World Cup starting in the West
Indies from March.
The game of cricket has continued to develop beyond its traditional boundaries
and no event captures the essence of that development better than the ICC World
Cricket League Division 1 tournament which Kenya's capital Nairobi hosts.
A total of 16 matches will be played at three venues across
the City in the Sun. The venues for the matches will be Nairobi Gymkhana,
Nairobi Jaffrey¡¯s Sports Club and Ruaraka Sports Club all of which
have undergone refurbishment and have been accredited by the ICC to host One-day
internationals.
