Australia has suffered another injury setback, as their wicket-keeper and opening
batsman, Tim Paine has broken his finger and will have to leave for Australia
to get treatment. This will mean that the Aussie side will be without a wicket-keeper
till a replacement is flown to India. Graham Manou has been nominated as the replacement
wicket-keeper. This would happen only on the day of the next ODI, which will be
at Delhi on the 31st, and that would mean that the new wicket-keeper will have
no chance to attune himself to the conditions.
Especially, when one talks of the pitch at Delhi, which is of a very slow nature
and hence will prove to be an issue for most batsmen; Graham Manou included.

Manou had earlier played in the Ashes, after Brad Haddin, the original choice
wicket-keeper had hurt his finger and could not feature in too many games.
Manou said that he was least expecting the call-up and was watching some movies
when he ran into the national selector, Jamie Cox. Cox asked Manou to
pack his bags and leave for India for the wicket-keeping assignment for the
rest of the five games that will be played in the seven game series.
Manou accepted that it would be going into one of the most difficult conditions
to play cricket in, and that would mean that he would have to be up for the
challenge from the word go. His girl-friend is also a middle-distance runner,
and will be representing Australia in the Commonwealth Games next year, which
will mean that he could assist her in the preparations, he said!
Haddin's injury is slowly healing, and he has been asked to play in the first
class fixtures to prove his fitness. He still remains Australia's number one
wicket-keeper provided he can prove his fitness. On the other hand, the other
wicket-keeper that the Aussies had tried when Haddin was last injured was Luke Ronchi, who is nowhere in the radar now, as Chris Hartley has come into
the fore.
The chief of selectors in Australia, Andrew Hilditch has said, "Graham
richly deserves this opportunity following his Ashes debut and his successful
domestic season last year in all forms of the game. The main competition for
Manou came from Chris Hartley, who was called to play a tour game in England
when both Haddin and Manou were injured."
Australia is already struggling with his injuries, having lost Clarke, Haddin,
Ferguson, Lee, Mitchell Johnson, Hopes and now Paine.
