According to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald Glenn McGrath's
final match in international cricket will be the Sydney Test against England.
McGrath's hometown newspaper said they had certified that he would not be playing
at the World Cup in March nor will he be continuing his one-day career.
If this information is correct it will mean that McGrath will
not be playing with the Australian team in the limited-overs tri-series that
starts in January. Previously there had also been speculations that McGrath
might postpone his retirement to defend Australia's title at the 2006 World
Cup in the West Indies.
The paper reported that the reason behind McGrath's retirement is his wife Jane's
ongoing fight with cancer. McGrath had been absent from the game for nearly
a year to care for his wife but has recently made a strong comeback during the
Ashes series.
Glenn McGrath is third in the list of all-time Test
wicket takers (Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan claiming the
first and second place respectively) and has already claimed 13 dismissals in
the series including six for 50 in the first innings at Brisbane. He is also
Australia's chief wicket-taker in one-day internationals.
