In a much-awaited announcement that will decide the fate of disgraced Indian
off spinner Harbhajan Singh, BCCI appointed commissioner Sudhir
Nanavati completed his reported over the Harbhajan Sreesanth slapping episode
that took place a fortnight ago in the Indian Premier League. With the
whole cricketing world in arms over the incident, which left sportsmanship ethics
and morality down in the drain as far as the game of the cricket, is concerned,
the BCCI had to take quick steps to rectify the issue and they sought out the
help of eminent lawyer Sudhir Nanavati for this issue.
The Ahmedabad based lawyer has been working diligently over this case during
the past fortnight and had summoned both Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth for this
case. After repeated hearings for both these Indian campaigners, Mr. Nanavati
has satisfactorily compiled a report and will not require any more information
from either of these two players. Sudhir Nanavati was appointed under the Rule
32 of the BCCI under which the Board president has the power to appoint a Commissioner
to assist its disciplinary Committee. The report submitted by Nanavati will
be refereed to the BCCI disciplinary Committee after Board president Sharad
Pawar goes through it. The Committee will then arrive on a decision that
will eventually decide the fate of the players involved.
This disgraceful incident occurred on the aftermath of the Mumbai Indians
vs Kings XI Punjab encounter during the after match celebrations. Reports
suggest that Harbhajan Singh was upset after losing a hard fought match and
his rage soon turned violent when Sreesanth went up to throw salt on a lost
cause. Apparently, Harbhajan lost his bearings and slapped Sreesanth leading
to the Kerala fast bowler going down in tears in public causing widespread embarrassment
for the BCCI and the IPL organisers. This is not the first time Harbhajan Singh
has been embroiled in controversy with the Punjab off spinner warned over and
over again about his conduct on the Punjab. Harbhajan has been involved in a
series of fights and misconducts all his life with the verbal duel with Andrew
Symonds and Matthew Hayden high of the agenda. However, this physical duel with
his own team India cricket buddy has left the entire cricketing world shocked
and gasping for answers. While the turbanator keeps IPL scores ticking over
with fast runs and regular wickets, he might just have to count his lucky stars
to escape with a mild punishment when the report comes out in open in two days
time.
