New Zealand beat England comfortably enough in their opening match of the World
Cup.
The kiwis overcame some hiccups against the new ball to win
by six wickets with nine overs to spare.
Scott Styris sparked England's batting collapse
and then rescued New Zealand from one of its own, earning the Blacks
Caps two vital points Friday in Group C.
New Zealand was reeling at two wickets down for three runs
in the second over in reply to England's 209-7 when Styris went to the crease.
He steadied the innings, first with Craig McMillan (27),
then in an unbroken 138-run fifth-wicket stand with Jacob Oram (63) to
guide New Zealand to 210-4 and a six-wicket win with nine overs remaining.
England is now under pressure after just one game of the World
Cup.
England lost by six wickets to New Zealand in its opening match
of the World Cup, sparked by a middle-order collapse in which Paul Collingwood,
Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff all fell in seven deliveries
for one run.
