The city police today ruled out involvement of any other West Indian or Indian
cricketer with bookie Mukesh Kochar, saying they only had evidence of a
conversation with all-rounder Marlon Samuels during a cricket one dayer
last month.
"As per our information and investigation, none but only
Samuels was having conversations from his Hotel Pride room no 206 on Jan 19
and 20 during odd hours with Kochar on the hotel landline number", Commissioner
Of Police, S.P.S. Yadav, told a crowded press conference here.
He said the first conversion took place on Jan 19 around 10-30
pm and lasted for eight minutes while on Jan 20 a day before the ODI, Samuels
received few calls lasting one minute and last call at 11-45 P.M. During which
he spoke for six minutes.
There is no match fixing angle and thus no cases were registered
against them, the police have concluded from the conversation that it was a
clear violation of ICC Code of Conduct for players and officials, Yadav said.
He said the calls were made from Faridabad and city police have alerted the
SP there to cross check the formation.
Kochar was supposed to leave next day, he said, adding "It
was our duty to watch whether any financial transaction is fixed or money is
used for anti-national activities."
