Pakistani cricketers today got first taste of working under new coach Geoff Lawson
and rugby trainer David Dwyer in the conditioning camp in Lahore
ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup.
Dwyer, who has worked previously as a trainer with state and club rugby teams
in New South Wales and Singapore, said he saw nothing unusual about a rugby trainer
working with a cricket team.
"A trainer is a trainer, and the priority remains the
same to raise the fitness levels of the players," Dwyer said.
The Australian said his first priority would be to improve the fitness level
of the players while ensuring that every player was put through a regimen that
suited his requirements.
"Obviously my methods of training are a bit different but the players
will soon get used to it," he added.
He said although the cricketers were in good shape, there is always room for
further improvement.
Dwyer added his main focus would be to work individually with
the players and is hopeful of good results by the time the series against India
begins in November-December.
