A bitter row between the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and a sitting
Senator escalated today when the former was again summoned by a Senate committee
and told to respond to some very tough and confidential questions regarding the
country's cricket set-up.
Although no date has been set as yet for the hearing of the Senate committee on
sports and culture, its members including senator Enver Baig have asked their
Chairman to requisition a meeting within 14-days and summon Naseem Ashraf
who heads the Cricket Board.
Just last week, Ashraf threatened to file damages against Baig
for making some remarks about him and described him as a person with a "sick
mind".
That Baig and his fellow senators are out to grill Ashraf is
obvious from the fact that they have asked him to divulge information which
is considered strictly confidential.
Ashraf has been asked to give details of all the people employed
in the Board since last year when he took charge with the salaries and perks
being provided to them. Details off the employees whose services have been terminated
since last year and also information about central contracts given to the players.
The PCB Chairman, who returned from India yesterday
after witnessing the Afro Asia Cup matches and attending a meeting of
the Asian cricket bloc has been directly appointed by President Pervez Musharraf
to head the Board on ad-hoc basis.
