Cricket board secretary Niranjan Shah today made it clear that paceman
Irfan Pathan, a part of India`s 15-member World Cup squad, still
required to prove himself by playing in the domestic circuit.
"Pathan has to still prove himself and maybe he has to
play one match of Deodhar Trophy before he goes to the World Cup,"
Shah said on Sunday.
"I think even chairman of selection committee (Dilip
Vengsarkar) wants him to play at least one match of Deodhar Trophy before
he goes. He has to bowl he can`t be just a passenger in the team," he said.
Pathan, who was sent back home mid way through India`s tour
of South Africa to rediscover his form, was recalled in the team in the fourth
and final match of the series against the West Indies.
The Baroda seamer also played in the recent series against
Sri Lanka but selectors hinted that they were not completely satisfied
with his fitness.
"If selectors have selected him (for the World Cup) there
is some responsibility (on them) and I think Pathan will be a part of the team,"
Shah said.
The BCCI Secretary Pathan was useful for the team as an allrounder.
"He is considered as an all rounder and he will be useful," he said.
