| PCB call back Yousuf to Pakistan side |
The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to take some prompt actions following
team's shameful 354-run defeat in a Test match against England at Trent Bridge.
Mohammad Yosuf has been asked to join the team for their remaining matches in
England. Also, Danish Kaneria who had been struggling with his bowling from quite
some time has been replaced by left-arm spinner Raza Hasan.
Mohsin Khan, the chief Pakistani team selector said that he received a request
from the tour management for inclusion of Mohammad Yousuf for rest of the
matches in England. However, Yosuf had already announced his retirement from international
cricket in March. He had been suspended indefinitely from the team after Pakistan
performed badly under his captain ship in a series against Australia. Nonetheless,
the chief selector said that Yosuf has been playing in local club tournaments
since then and is fit to join his teammates in England.
Another senior Pakistani player, Younis Khan who is currently playing county
cricket in England has not been asked to join the team.
On the other the Pakistan Cricket Board has announced that Danish Kaneria will
be relieved to play county cricket and 18-year old Raza Hasan will be included
in the squad at his place. Raza has played only two first-class matches.
The Pakistani team captain Salman Butt hoped that county cricket will help
Kaneria regain his lost form. Butt said that Kaneria is Pakistan's most experienced
bowler and thus the team expects him to get a move on and come back strongly.
Butt said that the matter was discussed between the team officials and him, though
Kaneria declined to comment on the issue.
In a statement, the former Pakistani team captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has raised need
for a separate batting coach for the team. Although former Pakistani batsman Ijaz
Ahmed works as a batting and fielding coach for the team, Inzamam has said that
he would definitely consider working as a full-time batting coach for the team
if offered the position as he owes a lot to the Pakistani Cricket and would like
to return the favour to his nation.
Pakistan is struggling with their batting line up. The team was all out at a mere
score of 182 runs in the first innings of the Test match against England
at Trent Bridge. Even in the series against Australia, the Pakistani batsmen seemed
to be lacking the flair.
Inzamam has expressed concern about the missing temperament and technique in Pakistani
batsmen. He said that the batsmen need to be more patient and develop right kind
of attitude for playing in a Test match. He suggested that the selectors should
try the senior-junior player combination and include players like Yousuf and Younis
in the playing squad.
