Only a day after the Pakistani cricketer Abdul Razzaq was linked to the
IPL, the cricket board from Pakistan has revoked all the NOCs it had doled out
to its players. It has also said that none of the Pakistani players will be representing
in the 2010 edition of the IPL.
The chairman of the PCB said that there was no point in one or two Pakistani
players to go and play in the IPL. Especially after, what he perceived to be
an insult to the country by the non-selection of the players.
Earlier, after the hue and cry that had been created in Pakistan over the non
inclusion of the players had meant that the IPL had had to come out with statements
defending the decision. Then, there had been rumours surrounding the chances
of Abdul Razzaq's inclusion in the side. The all rounder had said that he had
been approached by both, the Deccan Chargers and the Kolkata Knight Riders
for the tournament.
However, both the sides had refuted the claims, as had the chief of the IPL,
Lalit Modi. He had said that none of the sides could take a decision
to hire a player without due permission from him.
Butt had then advised Razzaq to wait till he actually gets the contract in
his hand before he could go ahead and talk to the Government officials. However,
within a day of bickering and denying that he had been offered the contract,
the PCB seems to have been fed up and released this press release; "All
NOCs issued to Pakistani players for their participation in IPL 3 stand revoked,
n the future if any player receives an invitation for participation in IPL events,
PCB will decide the matter on a case-to-case basis after consulting the relevant
government authorities"
Earlier, even when Razzaq had come out saying that he had been approached by
the franchises, the former cricketers had been divided in their views about
the same. Some ex-players like Rameez Raja and Aamer Sohail had said
that the PCB should bury the hatchet and move on. However, there were some others
like Zaheer Abbas who had said that there was no point in one player
getting selected whereas the rest of the cricketers from Pakistan not been a
part at all. He had been the one who had advocated to not allow Razzaq to play
in the IPL.
As things currently stand, none of the sides will have any Pakistani players
for the tournament!
