The sports committee of the Pakistan's Parliament is back into action. After the
apparent complaints about the selection of the Pakistani squad for the tour of
UK, the sports committee has decided to probe the allegations about the same.
The selectors and the other officials have been called up by the Parliament over
what has been described as the injustice over selections.
The head of the Senate's committee on sports, Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi,
has said that the PCB will nee to speak to the committee over the decisions
that they have taken, that includes the non-selection of the likes of Younis
Khan and the rest of them. He said, "We have come to know that there are
injustices in the team selection and to probe that we have summoned officials
and selectors in a meeting in Islamabad on July 9."
The team which was announced during the previous tournament, saw only Mohsin
Khan, coach Waqar Younis, captain Shahid Afridi and manager Yawar Saeed
making the decision, with a complete ignorance about the same from even the
other members of the selection panel. This had been panned by ex-cricketers,
the members of the selection committee who were not present during the selection
process.
Younis Khan's exclusion was the biggest talking point after the PCB had originally
banned him but later cleared his name. However, there were rumours that said
that Younis Khan had not been selected in the team because he had not said sorry
to the PCB.
The chairman of PCB had said that Younis' return will need the board to approve
the same, but the thing was that this hadn't happened in the case of the other
players who were banned or fined in that same way. This included Shoaib Malik,
Shahid Afridi and the Akmal brothers
The other players who had not been selected and cried foul were Faisal Iqbal,
Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Sami.
Pakistan will play two Twenty20s and two Tests against Australia, followed
by four Tests, two Twenty20 and five ODIs against England.
