Former Indian bowling coach and current bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings, Venkatesh Prasad has launched a severe attack on the Indian bowlers.
He has questioned the commitment and the attitude problems that the side has
shown when it comes to the bowling attack.
Prasad thinks that the problem for the bowlers doesn't lie in their actual bowling
but in their attitude. He thinks that the bowlers are way too casual and lack
discipline, commitment and drive.
Prasad thought that during his tenure as the Indian bowling coach he saw bowlers
only bowling for around 20 minutes in the nets and found that a major disappointment.
He suggested that the bowlers should bowl for at least two hours in the nets.
Without naming anyone in particular, Prasad said that some of the bowlers couldn't
push themselves to bowl more that 20 minutes in the nets.
Although he looked dissatisfied and jaded with his talks about most bowlers,
he did have special praise for Ishant Sharma complimenting him for a
fanatastic work ethic. He felt that he was the only bowler who gave it his all
in the nets and bowls with the same intensity that he bowled with in a match.
Ishant Sharma has been one of those sad stories in Indian cricket, who had started
off bowling at the speeds of more than 140 km/hr, but went on to reduce his
speed so badly that he was dropped from the team.
He also thought that Praveen Kumar was a talent that should be nurtured
and given the opportunity to play in Test matches in bowler friendly conditions
in England and New Zealand as he has the perfect wrist position to enable
the ball to move around both ways. He also thought that Kumar could be more
successful if he looked to cut down the amount of variations he tries. Praveen
has been selected in the shorter formats of the game but is not a regular in
the Test matches.
On Sreesanth's return to the Test team, he hoped that Sreesanth grabs this
opportunity with both hands and cements his place from now on. According to
him, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth has a long career ahead of him and looks
like a complete bowler thanks to his good run up and fantastic release point.
The only think that Prasad thinks, is lacking with the fast bowler from Kerela
is his discipline and he needs to work on that.
