Indian captain Rahul Dravid made 10,000 one day international runs
on Wednesday. With this he becomes the sixth player and only the third Indian
to achieve this feat. Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar are the
other two Indians who have made 10,000 ODI runs. Meanwhile, India still require
104 runs to win and has 21 overs and six wickets in hand.
Earlier, Indian opener Sourav Ganguly who was close to making
his half-century was dismissed by Malinga Bandara. Ganguly tried to sweep
Bandaras delivery and could not make contact with the bat and the ball
went on to hit his pads. Umpire Simon Taufel gave him out leg before the wicket.
Yuvraj Singh became another victim of Dilhara Fernando
as he tried to hit the ball and in the process gave an easy catch to Kulasekara.
Yuvraj made 21 runs off 32 balls.
Indian vice-captain Sachin Tendulkar who came in after the
departure of Virender Sehwag was out bowled as he edged Kulasekaras delivery
to his own stumps. Tendulkar made just 1 run.
Coming in as an opener with Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag
fell early yet again to Dilhara Fernando. Sehwag tried to defend a short ball
from Fernando and in the process gave an easy catch to Tillakaratne Dilshan.
Sehwag made 12 runs from 9 balls which came through three boundaries.
Indian pacer Zaheer Khan blemished Sri Lankan plans by ending
his 10 overs with his first one-day international 5-wicket haul. Zaheer dented
Sri Lankan batting order at regular intervals as Sri Lanka could post only 230
runs for the loss of 8 wickets in its stipulated 50 overs. For Sri Lanka, Russell
Arnold was the top scorer with 66 runs from 83 balls.
Earlier, Sri Lankan captain Mahila Jayawardene won the toss
and elected to bat first in the third ODI against India at Margao in Goa on
Wednesday. Sri Lanka has taken a 1-0 lead with its five-run win over India in
Rajkot. The first match in Kolkata of the four-match series was abandoned due
to rains.
Indian pacer Zaheer khan sent shock waves across the Sri Lankan
camp right from the start of the play as he uprooted three Sri Lankan wickets
initially. The first one to go was Sanath Jayasuriya. Jayasuriya was the victim
of a brilliant catching display by Sourav Ganguly. Jayasuriya made 2 runs off
7 deliveries.
It was then Upul Tharangas turn to go as Zaheers
delivery nipped back on to his pads. Tharanga could not do much and was declared
out leg before the wicket. He made 1 run from 9 balls.
Last ODI charmer Kumar Sangakkara was bowled by Zaheer Khan
as the ball kept a little low and nipped back in only to take the bottom edge
from Sangakkaras bat to hit on his stumps. Sangakkara departed on duck.
Munaf Patel then gathered a wicket as Sachin Tendulkar took
a dying catch to dismiss the in form Marvan Atapattu. Atapattu made 42 runs
from 62 balls.
Next one to go was Sri Lankan captain Mahila Jayawardene.
Jayawardene fell to a quicker ball from Harbhajan Singh which went to hit his
pads. Though the impact was outside the off stump but Simon Taufel raised his
finger. Jayawardene made 30 runs from 58 balls.
Indian spin wizard Harbhajan Singh took Tillakaratne
Dilshans wicket as he edged one to wicket keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
With this Harbhajan Singh broke a strong partnership of 89 runs between Dilshan
and Russell Arnold. Dilshan made a credible 42 runs off 54 balls.
Zaheer Khan then took yet another wicket to reach his first
five wicket haul. Zaheer Khan achieved this feat as Malinga Bandara was
given leg before the wicket. Malinga Bandara made 2 runs off 7 balls. Farveez
Maharoof was another victim of Zaheer Khan as he flicked one of Khans
deliveries into the hands of Ajit Agarkar. Maharoof made 14 runs off 12 balls.
