Indian skipper Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to field in the first
ODI against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens here today.
Dravid's decision to field first backfired as Sri Lankan opener
Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya started on an aggressive note.
But Tharanga did not last long as he dragged a Munaf Patel
delivery on to his stumps and soon the pacer took his second wicket when he
had Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene caught by Dravid at mid-on
for a duck.
Visitors lost left-handed batsman Kumara Sangakkara after he
scored 12 runs before caught behind by Dhoni off S. Sreesanth.
Marvon Atapattu (5) and Sanath Jayasuriya (63) were on crease when rain stopped
the play. Sri Lanka were 102 for three in 18.2 overs.
