Heavy showers forecast by the weatherman threatens to affect the one-off limited
overs cricket match between India and Pakistan here today.
Cricket Scotland Chief Executive Roddy Smith said continuous rains in the
region in the last week had left the outfield saturated at the Clyedesdale Cricket
Ground.
"We are just hoping that there is not enough rain over
the next few hours to get the ground any wetter because it has rained so much
over the last six weeks in Scotland," he said.
"For the last four or five days it has rained every day
so, although we are remaining hopeful of getting play, the ground can't take
a lot more rain." The one-off match between Pakistan and hosts Scotland
was also washed out at Edinburgh on Sunday and today's fixture is also in the
danger of meeting the same fate.
"We are eagerly looking forward to the match taking place
but if it is washed out, that will be disappointment for us and for the spectators
also," Smith said.
"Even if a shorter version is played, that will provide
some solace to us as well as to the spectators," he said, adding that almost
all of the 5,000 tickets had been sold out for the match, scheduled to start
at 10.45 local time (3.15 pm IST).
Smith, however, expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements
for the match after Saturday's failed terrorist attack at the airport here.
"We are very comfortable with the security. Security was
always going to be tight and will be tomorrow. The police have been involved
for five months in terms of planning the event. Everyone wants the event to
go ahead smoothly and I'm sure we can control every situation, apart from the
weather."
