Bangladesh picked up two crucial wickets to peg back India in the post-lunch
session of on a rain-truncated opening day's play in the first cricket Test here
today.
Opener Dinesh Kaarthick (56) and skipper Rahul Dravid (61), who
were going great guns before lunch, went back in quick succession as India reached
181 for three at tea.
Newly appointed vice-captain Sachin Tendulkar (35 batting)
and Sourav Ganguly (16 batting) were in the middle trying to rebuild
the innings after Kaarthick and Dravid departed within the space of 12 deliveries.
The duo has so far stitched together a 49 run stand for the third wicket.
Tendulkar's unfinished 51-ball knock contained four hits to
the ropes, with a cut past point of Enamul Huq and a drive past gully
of left arm spinner Saqib al Hasan deserving special mention.
Resuming at 113/1, after the post lunch session was delayed by 55 minutes due
to the drizzle, the Indian batsmen came up against an inspired spell by pacer
Mashrafe Mortazta.
Mortaza, who was expensive in his opening spell in the morning,
got back his rhythm later on, to trouble Kaarthick.
